  • It is very hot and isolated in Danakil Depression, and it is recommended that you are in good health for this tour.
  • Once in the Danakil Depression, the main accommodation is camping, so make sure this is comfortable for you.
  • Signal connection is weak in Danakil, so you can consider yourself fully off-the-grid once there.

    • Headlamp or flashlight: For navigating in the dark, especially at campsites.
    • Power bank: There might be limited access to electricity.
    • Camera with extra batteries and memory cards

    • Snacks: Energy bars, nuts, and other non-perishable snacks for extra energy.
    • Wet wipes and hand sanitizer: For hygiene when water is scarce.

  • If you cancel the trip two weeks before the trip starting day, you will get a full refund.
  • If you cancel the trip one week before the trip starting day, you will get a refund of 50% of the deposit.
  • If you cancel the trip after one week of the trip starting day, there will be no refund.

Immerse yourself in the weird and wonderfulness of Danakil Depression.

Day 1, Activity Fly to Semera and Drive Hamedella

  • Departure to Semera at 06:40, with arrival at 08:00.
  • Upon arrival, we will pick you up from the airport and drive to Semera Town for breakfast.
  • Afterward, we’ll continue our journey to the base camp of the Dallol Depression, with a picnic lunch in Afdera Town along the way (a 3-hour drive).
  • After lunch, we’ll continue driving to Dallol (a 3-hour drive). Upon arrival, we’ll stop by Lake Asale to witness the stunning sunset over the salty lake. Dinner will be at the camp.
  • Overnight at Sabba campsite, sleeping outside under the stars. We provide local beds, mattresses, and blankets for your comfort.

Day 2, Activity Visit to Dallol Depression and Drive to Erta-Ale

  • Early in the morning, at 05:00, we’ll drive to the colorful lands of Dallol to witness the stunning sunrise (a 1-hour drive). Upon arrival, we’ll hike to the top to see the sulfur lakes and colorful landscapes. The hike from the car parking area to the top will take around 10 to 15 minutes.
  • After the visit, we’ll return to the cars and drive to the salt mountains, where we’ll have a picnic breakfast and explore the salt rock formations.
  • Following the exploration, we’ll visit the salt workers, camel caravans (if we’re lucky), and natural potash oil springs.
  • After the visit, we’ll start driving to Erta-Ale Volcano, with a picnic lunch on the way.
  • Arrival at the base camp of Erta-Ale around 16:00. You’ll have time to prepare for the sunset hike to visit Erta-Ale volcano and the subsequent night hike back to the camp from 17:30 to 19:30. The hike is approximately 20 minutes each way (a 3-hour drive).
  • Overnight, sleeping outside under the stars. We provide mattresses and blankets for your comfort.

Day 3, Activity Drive Back to Semera and Fly Back to Addis

  • Early in the morning, at 05:00, you’ll have another chance to see the stunning sunrise at the volcano. After the visit, we’ll return to the base camp for breakfast at 07:00. After breakfast, we’ll pack up and begin our journey back to Semera.
  • Arrival in Semera for a late lunch, followed by drop-off at the airport for your flight back to Addis.
  • Departure back to Addis at 17:35, with arrival at 18:55.
  • This will mark the end of the adventure.
