Day 1, Activity, Fly to Dire Dawa and Drive to Harar

  • Morning: Fly to Dire Dawa, departing at 07:40 and arriving at 08:55.
  • Upon arrival, you will be greeted by our agent and your guide at the airport. Enjoy a coffee break and a brief tour of Dire Dawa.
  • Visit Kefira Market, one of the largest and most vibrant markets in Ethiopia, followed by a stop at the Old Train Station (Le Gare), a historic landmark that was a key part of the Djibouti-Ethiopia railway.
  • After your visit, have lunch in Dire Dawa before setting off for Harar, a scenic 1.5-hour drive.
  • Check in to your traditional guesthouse upon arrival in Harar.
  • In the evening, experience the famous Hyena Man ritual, where you will witness a man calling and feeding wild hyena, and even have the opportunity to feed them yourself.
  • Dinner will be at the Ras Hotel.
  • Overnight: Raouda Guest House.

Day 2, Activity City Tour in Harar

  • Morning: After enjoying a traditional Harari breakfast, begin exploring the medieval walled city of Harar Jugol, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2006, recognized for its rich cultural heritage. Harar is often referred to as the “fourth holiest city” of Islam, with 82 mosques, three of which date back to the 10th century.
  • Main Attractions: You will spend the day visiting the key landmarks of Harar, including its historical sites and vibrant markets.
  • Meals: Lunch and dinner will be served in Harar.
  • Overnight: Raouda Guest House.

Day 3, Activity Fly Back to Addis Abeba

  • Morning: Enjoy a walk around the old city of Harar and a local breakfast. If there are any sights you missed, you will have more time to explore and experience the rich history of this fascinating city.
  • Afterward: drive to Dire Dawa. Along the way, if you’re interested, we can stop in Awaday to visit the largest khat market in Africa, a major trading hub attracting merchants from across Ethiopia and neighboring countries.
  • Lunch: Served in Dire Dawa.
  • Flight: Depart from Dire Dawa at 16:20, arriving in Addis Ababa at 17:30
  • This will mark the end of the trip.
